Percy Lam’s depictions of Hong Kong, through diverse techniques and materials, explore his complex relationship with a city he still thinks of as home, even long after immigrating to the US. By recreating the city’s buildings and skylines in his laborious weaving, sewing, and neon works, Lam builds bridges between his past and present as a member of the Hong Kong diaspora, gazing back to his homeland from afar, and repeatedly revisiting the connections.

All My Love: Bernie and Albert’s Love in Letters presents the intimate correspondence between the Chinatown legend Bernarda “Bernie” Lo and her (then) boyfriend Albert Wong during the early years of their relationship.

While known as a force behind transformational community service work decades later, these letters show the quotidien beginnings of this American couple: two immigrants from Hong Kong whose love blossomed as they navigated life in the American Midwest during the 1960s. Through their ordinary letters—each one signed off “All my love”—this exhibition traces how love was understood, negotiated, and practiced within a shifting social landscape. Their private exchange invites us to imagine how they navigated the physical, social, and emotional terrains of transnational migration.

In Chicago-based visual artist and educator Kun Zhao’s Metamorphosis, she transforms recognizable symbols and images into breathtaking digital collages. Zhao’s practice spans painting, drawing, printmaking, and material expression. She has a passion for exploring the intersection of art, culture, and environmental issues. This exhibition is part of CAMOC’s Spotlight Series, an initiative to showcase local artists of Chinese descent. Curated by Larry Lee, multimedia artist, art historian, educator, and curator, the project aims to introduce, promote, and celebrate the divergent artistic visions and experiences of being Chinese in America.

A Plot of One's Own 一亩三分地 presents extraordinary contributions from ten Chinese diasporic artists alongside the Chinese American Museum of Chicago's research and archives. Through artworks that span painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, cartography, multimedia and living installation, this exhibition reflects on the beauty and savvy behind the "farm-gardens" seen all around Chicago's Chinatown and Chinese American communities across the diaspora.

While the pop-culture lens of an American Chinatown is defined by dragons, pagodas, and red-lacquered replicas of Chinese-ness meant as a transportative portal to the Far East of the American imagination, this group exhibition refocuses our gaze with a look into an oft-overlooked (yet ubiquitous) cultural phenomenon of spontaneous domestic farming and guerilla gardens.
