Established in 2007 by Chicago-based artist, writer, educator and curator Dan Devening, Devening Projects features a diverse group of emerging and established international artists. Devening has been living and working in Chicago since 1980 — teaching painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, exhibiting and curating locally, nationally and internationally. Focused on site-specific installations and thoughtful artist pairings, the gallery puts represented artists in direct conversation with emerging voices, letting the work speak across experience and geography. Devening Projects is the anchor of a growing gallery scene on Chicago’s West Side. Devening Projects also publishes experimental artists’ editions and multiples under the “Devening Editions” moniker.

Devening Projects is excited to start off the fall 2026 season with a curatorial collaboration between the gallery and Elizabeth Lalley of Slow Dance Projects. Together, we're presenting Road to the Farthest Room, featuring paintings by Jobe Gemmell Hughes and Julia Firestone Callis, and sculpture by Ben Driggs. The show will open with a reception for the artists on Sunday, September 13th, and will continue through October 24th.
