A one-hour artist talk and hands-on demonstration led by artist and designer Val Rose Thompson of Valaurel Studios, preceding the launch of Thompson’s mycelium-grown furniture collection, with designs to be sold through Flatline Gallery.
Developed in response to Death by Landscape, the program considers furniture and domestic objects as temporary ecological relationships rather than permanent commodities. Participants will handle mycelium-composite samples at different stages of processing, comparing density, texture, strength, and evidence of growth as Thompson explains how substrate, fungal species, form, and post-processing shape the material.
